Description

PRESCRIPTION

Blood pressure is significantly influenced by nervous tension and physical fatigue. To obtain accurate measurements:

  • Perform readings under both physical and mental rest conditions.
  • Maintain either a sitting or supine position.
  • Ideally, measure at the same time of day, away from meals.
  • Avoid movement during measurement.
  • Refrain from wearing tight clothing that compresses the arm and restricts blood circulation.
  • Keep in mind that blood pressure varies throughout the day, being lower in the morning and higher in the evening, as well as lower in summer and higher in winter.

OPERATION

  1. Cuff Application:
    • Place the cuff on the arm.
    • Pump the bulb until the pressure exceeds the individual systolic value by about 20 mmHg.
    • Ensure the person being measured sits calmly with the forearm at heart level, palm facing upward.
  2. Blood Pressure Measurement:
    • Slowly unscrew the vent screw counterclockwise to release air.
    • Aim for an ideal deflation rate of approximately 2-3 mmHg per second.
  3. Interpreting Readings:
    • As pressure gradually decreases, listen for the first pulse using a stethoscope.
    • The needle on the pressure gauge at this moment corresponds to the “systolic or maximum pressure.”
    • Continue decompression until pulsations disappear or become imperceptible; the needle reading then indicates the “diastolic or minimum pressure.”
  4. Completion:
    • Fully open the bleed valve to release air from the cuff, concluding the blood pressure measurement.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

  1. Pressure Gauge and Inflation Bulb:
    • Wipe with a damp cloth.
  2. Cuff:
    • Remove the inner tube and clean the covers with a damp cloth or soap in cold water.
    • Rinse the cuff thoroughly with clean water and allow it to air dry.
    • Note: Do not iron nylon cuffs.
    • The inner tube can be wiped with a damp cotton cloth.
